Nintendo has revealed the next Splatfest for Splatoon 3, with the January event delivering a food-themed battle for victory. The first three Splatfests for Splatoon 3, including August’s Rock, Scissors, Paper beta Splatfest, have proven to be resounding successes. Splatoon 3 players understandably have high expectations for what’s coming up next. Nintendo thinks it has the right solution, targeting Splatoon 3 players’ stomachs with the next Splatfest theme.

Since Splatoon 3 features 3-way Splatfests, players were guaranteed to have an entirely new theme for the series. Nintendo decided to go bigger than individual food items, instead grouping foods into three distinct categories. Splatoon 3 players will be able to choose from Spicy, Sweet, and Sour for the next Splatfest. While Sour flavoring being included does imply that this Splatfest is geared more toward Japan, underdogs do tend to perform well in Splatfests so Spicy and Sweet groups shouldn’t underestimate them.
The Spicy, Sweet, and Sour Splatfest is scheduled to begin on Friday, January 6 at 4:00PM PT and will end on Sunday, January 8 at 4:00 PM PT. That’s two days of intense Splatfest battling to decide who will be the winner. As usual, there will also be a Sneak Peek in-game turning Splatsville into Flavorville, allowing Splatoon 3 players to pick their team early. The Sneak Peek will begin on December 30.
Splatoon 3’s last Splatfest, the Pokemon-themed Fire, Grass, and Water battle, ran in mid-November. The announced start date for Splatoon 3’s next Splatfest keeps it on a tight schedule of just under two months between events. That’s significantly slower than the cadence of monthly Splatfests for Splatoon 2, at least when it was regularly supported, though some players prefer them to be rarer to make them stand out.
